This tour begins late in the morning and heads to the Clansman Hotel for your boat trip*.


Your boat trip will give you gorgeous views of the Loch and offers you a chance to see the famous Urquhart Castle. All the monster hunting will have made you hungry, so we then head for a delicious lunch at a nearby local restaurant. After a gentle drive to Invermorriston, we give you the chance to go on a scenic walk that exhibits some of the quintessential flowing rivers of the Scottish Highlands.


Our next part of the journey takes you to Fort Augustus, a gorgeous wee village nestled between Loch Ness and the 60-mile, Caledonian Canal. We then venture back to Inverness, with walking stops and coffee breaks at the scenic villages of Foyers and Dores.

- You'll find us at Dochgarroch Lock, 4 miles out of Inverness down the A82. If using Google Maps, look for Loch Ness by Jacobite - Dochgarroch Lock.            

- Parking facilities are available at Dochgarroch Lock free of charge, as well as the use of bike racks. 

- Both the Jacobite Rebel and Jacobite Maverick have disabled access. Only the Jacobite Maverick has disabled toilet facilities available on board.

- Dog friendly (up to 2 dogs are allowed on the boat)

The adventure begins 9 miles from Inverness city centre, so you'll want to hop in your car and get ready for the journey of a lifetime! And when you're ready to hit the road again, you'll be glad to know that parking facilities are available at Clansman Harbour. And the best part? It's absolutely free! While it might be subject to slight limitations during peak season, it's still an incredible deal. We recommend you arrive 45 minutes before your departure time. There are no bike racks available at The Clansman Hotel, but that didn't stop us! If you see the sign for the overflow car park, you're almost there! It's just a short 15-minute walk on uneven terrain to the beautiful harbour.

Please note that all of our boats welcome dogs on board, and whilst this tour does not, it may not be suitable for those who suffer from dog allergies.

Unfortunately, dogs are unable to join us on the tour of Urquhart Castle.

Please note that our boat hosts both the Freedom and Inspiration tours at the same time - dogs are welcome to join the Inspiration. 

Disembarking at Urquhart Castle is not possible for wheelchair users or those with mobility impairments. If you or a member of your party has any mobility impairments, please view our Contemplation Cruise option.

Ever wondered how glacial meltwater can affect a landscape, creating deep gorges? Us too. Corrieshalloch is one of the most spectacular gorges in Britain. Make sure you have good walking shoes for the short (yet steep) walk to a Victorian suspension bridge.


All the better so you can have yet another incredible view over crashing waterfalls below. Designated a National Nature Reserve, be on the lookout for the rare species of cranefly or the species of ferns that grow in the microclimate of the gorge.


Time for something a little different but equally as lovely – we stop in the village of Ullapool, known as the ‘Gateway to the Outer Hebrides’. With a strong fishing heritage, why not grab a quick snack of locally sourced seafood? Or maybe perusing the craft shops is more your thing. But don’t get too comfortable because the Highlands are calling you out again


After a quick visit, we’re off to Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve.


Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve is where the rocks come to life... or it seems that way. From stunning sculptures to poetry carved into rockfaces, it's a breathtaking spot to be sure.


No visit to Scotland is complete without a ruinous castle. As you explore the quiet history of our next stop, Ardvreck Castle, try to imagine what it might have been like for the MacLeods clan living there in the 15th century, overlooking the mysterious Loch Assynt. As you gaze out over the loch, keep an eye out for the missing daughter of the MacLeod’s, Eimhir, also known as the ‘mermaid of Assynt’. The legend goes that instead of marrying the brute to whom she was betrothed, Eimhir plunged into the caverns of the loch and made a new home beneath the water’s surface.


It’s time for a wee break so we head to the small fishing port and resort of Lochinver on the west coast of Scotland. Enjoy the beautiful mountain views and white sandy beaches as you perhaps munch on one of their legendary pies for lunch.


I bet you weren’t prepared for a trip to the Caribbean while visiting Scotland? That’s how stepping onto Achmelvich Beach feels. Water as clear and blue as a crystal, sand as fine and white as snow. Enjoy a wee stroll, because no matter the weather this is a beautiful spot.


Mermaids, pies, beaches, castles... it’s been a day to remember as we head back to Inverness that evening.
