Manchester is famous for being one of the world capitals of football (soccer), but there is much more to see here. For example, Chinatown, the second largest in the UK and the third-largest in Europe, take a peek at the Town Hall, built-in 1877 during the industrial revolution and one great example of neo-gothic architecture. The façade is so similar to the Palace of Westminster that it was even used as a substitute for the movie “The Iron Lady”, by Margaret Thatcher. Another neo-gothic building is John Rylands Library, baptized with the name of Manchester’s foremost textile manufacturer, first multi-millionaire and philanthropist. This medieval church testifies to the existence of the city as a Saxon settlement and is the seat of the Bishop of Manchester.


The seventh most populated city in England, it’s also considered a modern hub, but it was once also one of the most important textile centers on the planet. You leave manic Manchester behind and head straight for the lovely Lake District.


Your first stop of the day is at Bowness which sits on the shores of Windermere. You have time here to take a leisurely cruise on the lake or wander around the town and admire the sublime views of the landscapes.


You travel around the southern tip of Windermere and towards Coniston Water. You enjoy the views of this body of water before arriving in the picturesque conservation village of Hawkshead. This is where the poet William Wordsworth attended Grammar School.


After exploring the cozy village, you take the narrow country lanes north towards Grasmere, a place Wordsworth described as “the loveliest spot that man hath found”.


There's free time to visit Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage, taste the legendary gingerbread, or enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the Wordsworth Daffodil Garden by the River Rothy.


We then take in spectacular views of Ullswater Lake as we head along country roads to its southern shores and onwards out of the Lake District to Lancaster. It’s a contrast to all the villages you’ve visited, this town boasts majestic medieval architecture and a spectacular castle that dominates the surrounding district.


From here, we return to Manchester in the early evening.
