Enjoy a full day of stunning scenery and fresh Highland air, as we travel all the way around Loch Ness and along the idyllic West Coast. We depart Inverness at 8.00 am and begin our journey along the world-famous Loch Ness, stopping for photos above the ruins of Urquhart Castle. We continue west and visit the Commando Memorial, which overlooks the Nevis Range; home to the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis.


Next, it’s time to set your sights upon the Jacobite Steam Train as it crosses the iconic arches on the Glenfinnan Viaduct before we take the stunning ‘Road to the Isles’ towards our lunch stop. Enjoy fresh seafood in the fishing town of Mallaig, before boarding the steam train to Fort William, where your driver will be waiting for you.


The beautiful scenery continues into the evening with a stop in Fort Augustus to see the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness up close. Finally, we visit the Falls of Foyers and Dores Beach on the banks of Loch Ness, arriving back in Inverness around 8 pm.

This tour begins late in the morning and heads to the Clansman Hotel for your boat trip*.


Your boat trip will give you gorgeous views of the Loch and offers you a chance to see the famous Urquhart Castle. All the monster hunting will have made you hungry, so we then head for a delicious lunch at a nearby local restaurant. After a gentle drive to Invermorriston, we give you the chance to go on a scenic walk that exhibits some of the quintessential flowing rivers of the Scottish Highlands.


Our next part of the journey takes you to Fort Augustus, a gorgeous wee village nestled between Loch Ness and the 60-mile, Caledonian Canal. We then venture back to Inverness, with walking stops and coffee breaks at the scenic villages of Foyers and Dores.

Day 1 | Inverness

We depart Inverness in the morning, and begin our journey along the mysterious Loch Ness. Keep an eye out for the legendary monster ’Nessie’ as we stop at the ruins of Urquhart Castle with panoramic views of the loch. We head south through dramatic glens before visiting the historic Commando Memorial and view Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, from afar. We drive to Fort William, where you will board the Jacobite Steam Train* for a scenic two-hour ride with spectacular views of the Highlands and Scotland’s scenic west coast. After experiencing what is said to be the greatest rail journey in the world, we disembark the train in Mallaig to relish fresh seafood for lunch. We ferry across the sea to the Isle of Skye and travel through the marvellous Cuillin Mountains before arriving at our overnight destination in Portree.

Day 2 | Portree

A day of tales, myths, and iconic scenery awaits! We begin our morning exploring the enchanting Fairy Pools, a series of natural waterfalls with crystal clear water on the River Brittle. Hear stories of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s escape from the mainland as we drive to the thriving village of Dunvegan for lunch to indulge in local delights. Hear more about the history of Scotland’s most magical isles before taking a fabulous walk through the Quiraing. Our journey continues to the cascading waterfall of the Kilt Rock and the breath-taking viewpoint of the Old Man of Storr before arriving back in Portree with free time to explore the colourful harbour and village.

Day 3 | Isle of Skye

We bid farewell to the Isle of Skye and head to the romantic Eilean Donan Castle, reputedly the most photographed castle in Scotland. We continue south-west and soak in the stunning scenery before stopping for lunch at the picturesque village of Beauly. With our energy replenished, we visit a Highland whisky distillery to warm our bellies with Scotland’s favourite national drink and learn how ‘uisge beatha’ is made. Listen to the tales of the last battle fought on British soil as you explore the grounds of Culloden Battlefield, followed by a visit to the standing stones of Clava Cairns; made famous by the hit TV series Outlander. Crossing back into the capital of the Highlands we arrive in Inverness in the early evening.

Highland hotels and guesthouses do not have lifts. Guests should be able to walk up steps in order to access rooms.

This day-trip from Inverness will take you through some of the most rugged and remote parts of the beloved Scottish Highlands and a section of the famous NC500 Route. And we invite you to embark on this adventure with us. An adventure that takes you. 

 They call Inverness the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’ for a reason. After welcoming you on board, we head North towards some of Scotland’s most stunningly rugged and remote regions. Are you prepared? Got your camera? Scarf? Walking shoes?


Because today we’re even traversing along some of Scotland’s famous NC500 Route.


Our first host is someone (or thing) far from shy. She’ll thunderously greet you, ready to entertain and marvel, to show you why she’s beloved. Situated on the aptly named Black Water river, Rogie Falls is waiting to impress you. Enjoy a view worthy of your camera on the new suspension bridge and breathe in the fresh forest air that surrounds you.

Speaking of impressive... we continue North to our next destination which is sure to both thrill and inspire you.


Ever wondered how glacial meltwater can affect a landscape, creating deep gorges? Us too. Corrieshalloch is one of the most spectacular gorges in Britain. Make sure you have good walking shoes for the short (yet steep) walk to a Victorian suspension bridge.


All the better so you can have yet another incredible view over crashing waterfalls below. Designated a National Nature Reserve, be on the lookout for the rare species of cranefly or the species of ferns that grow in the microclimate of the gorge.


Time for something a little different but equally as lovely – we stop in the village of Ullapool, known as the ‘Gateway to the Outer Hebrides’. With a strong fishing heritage, why not grab a quick snack of locally sourced seafood? Or maybe perusing the craft shops is more your thing. But don’t get too comfortable because the Highlands are calling you out again


After a quick visit, we’re off to Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve.


Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve is where the rocks come to life... or it seems that way. From stunning sculptures to poetry carved into rockfaces, it's a breathtaking spot to be sure.


No visit to Scotland is complete without a ruinous castle. As you explore the quiet history of our next stop, Ardvreck Castle, try to imagine what it might have been like for the MacLeods clan living there in the 15th century, overlooking the mysterious Loch Assynt. As you gaze out over the loch, keep an eye out for the missing daughter of the MacLeod’s, Eimhir, also known as the ‘mermaid of Assynt’. The legend goes that instead of marrying the brute to whom she was betrothed, Eimhir plunged into the caverns of the loch and made a new home beneath the water’s surface.


It’s time for a wee break so we head to the small fishing port and resort of Lochinver on the west coast of Scotland. Enjoy the beautiful mountain views and white sandy beaches as you perhaps munch on one of their legendary pies for lunch.


I bet you weren’t prepared for a trip to the Caribbean while visiting Scotland? That’s how stepping onto Achmelvich Beach feels. Water as clear and blue as a crystal, sand as fine and white as snow. Enjoy a wee stroll, because no matter the weather this is a beautiful spot.


Mermaids, pies, beaches, castles... it’s been a day to remember as we head back to Inverness that evening.
